West Virginia

West Virginia is a state located in the mountainous region of the eastern United States, and its nickname is “The Mountain State.” As the name suggests, it is well known as a place with many mountains and valleys. In the 50 State Quarters series, it was the 35th to be issued.

The reverse of the coin features the New River Gorge Bridge, with the inscription “New River Gorge” engraved below it.

The New River Gorge Bridge is a magnificent bridge spanning a deep gorge, and it represents West Virginia’s rugged and beautiful mountain scenery. It is an image that fits well with the nickname of the Mountain State.

West Virginia became an official state of the United States on June 20, 1863, ranking 35th in order.

Looking at this coin, one first thinks of high mountains, deep gorges, and the bridge that connects them. West Virginia, in effect, chose “a landscape together with the mountains” as its point of pride.
