George Rogers Clark National Historical Park

George Rogers Clark National Historical Park is located in the state of Indiana, and it honors an important event that took place on the western frontier during the American Revolutionary War.

On the reverse of the coin is engraved George Rogers Clark leading his soldiers through a flooded plain toward Fort Sackville. The procession of soldiers pushing arduously through the cold water is vividly depicted.

In the dead of winter, this march, crossing on foot a widely flooded plain, was an extremely arduous and dangerous undertaking. Yet Clark and his soldiers accomplished it and took the fort, and this had a great influence on the course of the western region in the Revolutionary War.

The place where this historic event took place was designated a national historical park on July 23, 1966, so that the endurance and resolve of that day would be long remembered.
